Special Weather StatementMinorCumberland; Edgecombe; Halifax; Johnston; Nash; Sampson; Wayne; Wilson...INCREASED FIRE DANGER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING... A dry cold front will move through the area this afternoon. This will mean that southwest winds will shift to the northwest during the afternoon, and increase to between 15 and 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph. These winds will bring much drier air into the region from mid-afternoon through the evening hours. The relative humidity levels will dip to 30 percent by late afternoon, and remain between 30 and 35 percent through the evening hours. This combination of gusty winds, lowering relative humidities, and the lack of rainfall will lead to an increased fire danger risk for the Coastal Plain. Outdoor burning is discouraged. Please refer to your local burn permitting authority on whether you can burn. If you do burn, use extreme caution and ensure fire suppression equipment is readily available.2021-04-21T05:45:00-04:00
